A BMI between 18.5-24.9 indicates a normal body weight although some reports suggest a normal body weight has a BMI of between 20-24.9.People with a BMI ranging from 25.0-29.9 shows that person is overweight and anyone above 30 is considered to be obese. In the above BMI case the person would actually require to add more weight control measures as any more extra may lead to development of health complications.
Depending on individuals health risk factors, all obese and overweight people should aim at losing the excess weight. For a person having a normal BMI small weigh gain may not necessary strain the heart but for someone obese extra weight may not be good. For people with pear shapes having a smaller upper body may indicate less health risk compared to a person with apple shaped body, but not necessarily that they are have less weight.

An average man has his body weight containing 10 to 18 percent of body fat. On the other hand an average woman has 18 to 25 percent of body weight being fat.
